New MBGH Member Benefit: Diabetes Academy

Memphis Business Group on Health announces a new member benefit designed to help your employees with diabetes learn to manage their condition, stay as healthy as possible thereby reducing costs for health services, and continue to be at work, contributing to your organization's financial success. The program is also appropriate for employees with pre-diabetes and for those employees that are caring for diabetics or have diabetics in their family.

MBGH is working with Novo Nordisk to offer the Diabetes Academy, an on-site program provided by a Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE), free-of-charge to MBGH members and their employees. The Diabetes Academy includes four modules addressing the basics of diabetes, physician office visits, meal planning and preparation, and medication use. Academy participants receive take-home and online resources to reinforce the information from each module and to help them put into action the techniques they learned to manage diabetes.

The program is totally customizable and can be presented as a series of four sessions, or modules can be combined into a fewer number of sessions, depending on employer-preference. Sessions last about an hour and include time for discussion and Q&A, helping to build rapport between the CDE and program participants and among the participants themselves. Employers will receive a summary report on participation levels, pre- and post-knowledge assessment aggregate results, and employee feedback to help gauge program effectiveness.

The Diabetes Academy complements MBGH's deployment of CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP). It provides a member resource for diabetics and increases the knowledge and understanding of diabetes for pre-diabetics, encouraging and motivating them to make the lifestyle changes promoted and supported by participating in the NDPP.

Diabetes Academy is available to MBGH employer members as well as our Conference Sponsors at the Supporter level and above. Optimum session registration is at least 20 employees. If you are interested and want to learn more, please contact Cristie Upshaw Travis at [email protected].
