Church Health Center: A Champion in Worksite Wellness

The Church Health Center signed on to MBGH’s CEO Culture of Health Initiative January 31st of this year and has been expanding upon their culture of health ever since.

Lisa Carson, Director of Wellness, at the Church Health Center reported their program providing a wide variety of wellness activities, including:

  • annual biometric screenings
  • quarterly fitness assessments
  • incentives for completing activity logs
  • educational classes on topics such as nutrition, stress, and smoking

They also send out a monthly newsletter to employees and hold staff meetings where they have a “wellness moment” highlighting a different wellness topic.  The Church Health Center already had a pre-established policy for healthy meetings and events but has recently incorporated a healthy vending machine policy through the Million Calorie Reduction Match as part of the Culture of Health initiative.

The Church Health Center has truly created a comprehensive program within their organization and should be considered a champion to other businesses in the Memphis area. The Church Health Center has been nationally recognized as an American Heart Association “Fit Friendly Company” this past year and is working towards renewing again this year. By creating a comprehensive worksite wellness program that is centered on physical activity, nutrition, and culture the Church Health Center has reached an 85% participation rate from employees. Their hope for providing such a substantial employee wellness program is to improve the quality of life for their employees both inside and out.
