The mission of the Memphis Business Group on Health is to facilitate the purchase of
efficient and effective health care services for the Memphis community. In order to
accomplish this mission, MBGH members believe that:
- employers should be active in the development of the health care delivery system;
- providers should be held accountable for the quality, satisfaction and cost of services
they deliver;
- accountability is reliant upon the collection, reporting and use of appropriate
information; and
- employers should use such information to select high performing providers.

Memphis Business Group on Health has been selected by The Leapfrog Group to lead the metro-Memphis regional roll-out. As a regional roll-out leader, MBGH will be:
- Working with hospitals to move toward implementing three proven patient safety improvements: computerizing physician order entry, staffing intensive care units with physicians trained in critical care medicine, and evidence based hospital referrals.
- Encouraging hospitals to publicly report their progress in implementing these three improvements. Most metro-Memphis hospitals have reported their progress in meeting these standards. Click here to see the results.
- Developing recognition and reward programs for hospitals that implement these safety practices.
- Working with employers to educate their employees about preventable medical mistakes and what they as individuals can do to minimize their chances of experiencing such mistakes.
